The Aloe Vera plant has been used for many years for many reasons pertaining to health and wellness.
The plant, which is an evergreen, is somewhat strange looking (a cross between a cactus and an octopus). It is native to northern Africa and can grow to a height of 33 inches. The Aloe Vera plant has flowers that bloom from early May until some time in June.
Aloe Vera can be purchased as a gel, a nutritional drink or in capsule form. The gel can be applied directly to the skin or you can consume a tablespoon or two if it on a regular basis. It does not hurt to have an Aloe Vera plant in your home for its therapeutic benefits as well.
Help for the Skin- To the Rescue!
Speaking of the skin, this is one of its most important uses. The gel from the plant is very beneficial for the skin in the event of a burn or a cut. The gel will form a protective layer over the site of the injury and will begin to facilitate the healing process immediately. It will also resist the invasion of bacteria that can cause an infection to get underway.
If you happen to bruise your skin then not to worry, applying Aloe Vera directly to the area will minimize the chance that it will change into a variety of different colors before it finally goes away.
Ouch Relief for Burns!
Aloe Vera is often a good thing to have on hand if you burn yourself. This includes a sunburn too! A generous amount of Aloe Vera applied topically to a first or second degree burn can help to soothe it and encourage healing to start as soon as possible. Not only that but Aloe Vera is made up of a large percentage of water which means that it is very hydrating to the skin which is what you want.
If you take a close look at the sun blocks and after sun lotions and gels that are sold at many pharmacies you will see that Aloe Vera is a common ingredient. That is because it is so soothing to damaged and inflamed skin. If you do get sunburned then to take some of the discomfort out of it first rinse the red and swollen area gently with cool water. Pat dry and then apply a sizable amount of Aloe Vera to your skin. Depending on how bad the sun burn is, you may have to apply the gel a couple of times before relief is found!
Aloe Vera has also been found to help a myriad of other skin problems including eczema, psoriasis, different types of dermatitis, as well as dry flaky skin. Both skin lesions and ulcers can heal faster when Aloe Vera is applied to them. If you have a skin condition then it is recommended that you apply Aloe Vera gel topically but also that you consume it by mouth on a regular basis until the problem shows signs of improvement.
